How to Extend the Performance of Laptop Batteries

Published by Matt on June 25th, 2011 - in Featured Articles

Laptop BatteriesLaptop computers are replacing desktop computers for a number of qualities including
mainly better chips, lighter components, rechargeable batteries, and fast processing
capabilities. Although laptop batteries allow one to use it on the go yet at the same time it
is perhaps the only Achilles’ heel of laptops for they start losing their storage energy with
the passage of time thus lasting only for a few minutes.

Among others, the two major factors that cut short the life of laptop batteries include
resource hungry applications and careless management on part of the user. The charm
of laptop computers is lessened when you need to take an extra battery in your bag or to
look for some power outlet to charge it up. Here are some useful steps that will help you
maximize the performance of your laptop batteries.

Use Operating Programs Efficiently

First of all, defrag your laptop’s hard disk on regular basis. This process will help your
hard disk work efficiently to locate scattered data and as a result it will work faster.
Thus the faster the hard disk the lesser load will be on the laptop batteries. It is accepted
that the effect of this scheme is minimum but when it goes hand in glove with hard disk
maintenance, it works a great deal in the long run.

Second, decrease the contrast level of your screen and increase your battery’s
performance. There are some laptops, available in markets, which come with cooling
system that need to be switched on so that it may consume less energy. Another way to
increase the efficiency of battery is to set up the power option in windows control panel
at ‘max battery’ for maximum effect.

Third, shut down all those programs that are not crucial and are running in the
background such as I-tunes, Desktop Search etc. Since they put extra load on hard disks,
they need to be closed down when you are on your battery.

Careful Management is Necessary to Increase Battery’s Performance

First, shut down extra devices like USB device, WiFi when they are not needed because
they usually drain down the laptop batteries. It goes without saying that they take their
energy from batteries and when laptops are running on batteries, they will definitely
decrease the performance of batteries.

Another precautionary measure to be taken is to keep your laptop, especially battery’s
metal contacts, clean. Since blocked air vents force the computer to generate more heat, it
resultantly reduces the life of the battery. So it is better to clean the laptop batteries with
a cloth moistened in rubbing alcohol and keep the environment around the laptop clean to
block the entry of dust.

Third, do not use your laptop under high temperature such as under direct sunlight or
inside a closed car. Undue temperature also kills off the life of a battery.

And finally, use your laptop batteries after charging them at least twice or thrice a
week. Keeping them dormant also depletes their performance. However, if you don’t
want to use it for sometime, remove it from the laptop and store in a cool place. Also
prevent your battery from memory effects; it means keep it fully charged and then fully

Useful Tips for Buying a Refurbished TV LCD

Published by Matt on June 23rd, 2011 - in Featured Articles

Refurbished TV LCDDue to the increasing gap between high prices of electronics and less purchasing
power, people tend to make the most out of their hard-earned income. Instead of
purchasing brand new electronic items, they prefer to buy refurbished electronics to
save a considerable amount of money. The same is true when it comes to purchasing a
refurbished TV LCD; it is a good choice made by those who cannot afford high price of
the same TV set in brand new condition.

Refurbished TV LCD and Saving

Before we delve into how much a buyer can save on purchasing refurbished TV LCD, let
us first understand what makes a product refurbished. By refurbished products, we mean
any product that was returned to the manufacturer due to one or the other reason. The
manufacturer retests the product at the factory to know whether it is working properly.

On finding any defect, it is repaired in order to restore the product to its original
specification making it ready for resale as a “like new” product. As per consumer laws,
the manufacturer cannot sell such products labeling them as “new” because the factory
seal has been broken; he can however put it for sale as ‘refurbished product’ at discounted
price.

Generally, one can save up to 70% of money on refurbished TV LCDs but there are other
things as well that need to be taken into account in order to determine real savings. These
include TV LCD’s working quality, replacement warranty, money-back warranty and its
being factory-sealed refurbished product. May be someone will say that factory sealed
refurbished TV LCD sells at a higher price than third-party refurbished TV LCDs, but I
would say that factory-sealed products still represent higher savings for they come into
the market after a rigorous burn test and also offer extended warranty unlike third party
refurbished products.

What should be considered when purchasing a refurbished TV LCD?

First of all, if you are going to purchase a TV set from a retailer, turn it on and ensure that
its sound and picture are of good quality. On noticing any defect, in picture or sound, do
not go for purchasing it as it will cause greater trouble for you in the time to come.

Secondly, keep in mind that manufacturers repair diodes of refurbished TV LCDs to
increase its performance as that of the original TV LCDs. This practice in fact decreases
their life span or number of performance hours. In this case it is better to buy a new TV
instead of refurbished one that is accompanied by a substantial risk.

Third, ask some important questions to your dealer:

  • Is it really a factory refurbished TV LCD?
  • Does he offer a valid warranty on refurbished unit?
  • Is he offering a return warranty in case you are not satisfied with your TV set?

Only go for buying it if you get answers of these queries in the affirmative. It is so
because a refurbished product devoid of these aspects is worth great trouble and not a
best alternative to brand new electronic TV set.

Finally, purchase refurbished set only from a reputed seller because he will not belittle
his repute by selling low standard products and charging high prices. If you are
comfortable with online purchasing, then Amazon is the best choice for it is not only an
established seller but also a respected one that can be trusted for quality and standard
products.

When all of a sudden you notice that the images appearing on your LCD TV are getting
distorted, darker and even discolored, it might be a signal that your LCD TV lamp has
been damaged. To restore the original image quality, you need to repair the LCD TV
lamp that can be purchased easily from electronic outlets. Don’t sweat it; it is a common
problem that often occurs due to a short circuit, overuse of TV, or a sudden power surge.
You can take advantage of the easy replacement process and repair your TV on your own
evading the cost of professional technician.

How to Remove the Old LCD TV Lamp

First of all, switch off the TV and let it cool down for at least half an hour. Locate the
LCD TV lamp compartment on the back of your TV set. Usually it is located on the
lower left or right side on the back of the TV. It is attached to the TV with two silver
metallic clips. You have to unscrew these two clips.

Next, pull the metallic clips out of lamp compartment with gentle hands. Now you will
see a plastic cover beneath which the LCD TV lamp occurs. With the help of a screw
driver, press the plastic tabs on the side of the lamp connector to loosen the plastic cover.

Then, remove the plastic cover along with the double headed metal spring which is
attached to the lamp. After that you can pull out the lamp assembly while detaching
power cables that are affixed to it. At this point mark the cable with a distinct color and
keep in mind the angle and position of the lamp so that you can place the new one on the
exact place.

How to Replace the New Lamp

Before replacing the new lamp, clean the lamp compartment from dust, if it exists, with
the help of soft micro-fiber cleaning cloth. Do not forget to handle the lamp gently and
carefully while attaching the screws because any careless push can pierce it.

Now you will have to replace the new lamp reversing the order you employed while
removing the old lamp out of the TV set. Lay down the lamp in its actual place, the lamp
compartment. Screw back the metallic clips on it. Next, screw the plastic cover firmly
onto the lamp compartment. The double headed spring should be gently put back into the
lamp compartment and pushed down so that it may get fixed into the base. And finally
screw all of the four bolts tightly onto their holes to prevent dust from entering the lamp
compartment.

This “do it yourself” process will help you recover the original image quality and enjoy
watching your favorite TV programs once again.

Wall mounting a LCD or Plasma

lcd wall mountMounting your LCD TV on wall mounts, also known as mounting brackets, has dual
benefits: on one hand, it adds stylish look and appearance to the room; on the other hand,
it spares some elbow room in the living room, or bedroom. Since an LCD TV is heavier
than ordinary framed pictures or wall charts, they need to be hanged on solid wall mounts
or mounting brackets. You can mount an LCD TV on your own provided you are a little
bit familiar with operating screwdrivers and the related tools. The things which you will
be in need of include screwdrivers, wrench, a socket set, stud finder, an LCD TC wall
mount, and an LCD television.

Things to do before Hanging an LCD TV

First of all, remove the base from the TV and you will see four mounting holes on the
back of the TV set. With two holes on either side, measure how far apart the four holes
are. Now purchase an LCD TV wall mount as per the measurement that can fit your LCD
TV. You will come across a number of styles of mounts; however, two among them are
most commonly used: one installs the television flat on the wall while the other puts the
television on an extension which stretches away from the wall. The second is better for it
can be optimizes in different angles to have multiple views.

Now mark the wall at the area where you want to mount the LCD TV. While using stud
finder find out the wall studs if they have been spaced under the plaster anytime; to do
this you will have to pass the stud-finder back and forth with repetition.

It is also better to affix the mounting rails to the back of your TV set prior to mounting
the bracket to the wall. Then put the LCD TV wall mount on the exact place of the wall
and which you have marked for the screw studs. Carefully screw the bracket into the wall
along with a washer while ensuring that a 3-1/2 inch screw goes deep into the plaster.
If it does not go into the underlying stud, unscrew the screws and drill a deeper hole
measuring about a quarter-inch into the plaster. Now you can easily push the screw bolt
combined with a flat washer into the mounting hole on the wall.

What to do while Hanging LCD TV on the Wall Mounts

Screw the bolt onto the hole until it clears the wall and reaches up to the maximum point.
After screwing the bolt, push the wall mount flat on the wall and affix the toggle bolt
with your screwdriver. Repeat the same act on all holes that does not give place to studs.
While doing this, make sure that at least half of the bolt reaches deep into the wall so that
it can easily carry the weight of the television.

Once you have affixed the LCD TV wall mount into the wall, place the television onto
the brackets of wall mount. Take help from somebody else because doing it alone may
be a risky adventure especially when the TV set is heavy. The mounting rails on the
back of the TV should be clipped onto the wall bracket. Make sure that the TV rails and
mounting bracket have been locked down in a proper way. To know whether your TV
is tight on the wall mount, you can give it a few light tugs. Now when you have done
with hanging your LCD TV, you can enjoy an innovative and stylish way of watching
television.
